Brazil: BWI signs OHS Declaration covering 2,530 Faber-Castell workers

BWI and its affiliates namely, the Trade Union of Workers in the Chemical Industries of São Carlos, Prata Construction Union and Trade Union of Workers in the Chemical Industries of Manaus signed a new Joint Declaration on Safe and Healthy Workplaces with the multinational company Faber-Castell in Brazil. The declaration covers 2,530 workers in the cities of Manaus, São Carlos and Prata.

A signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the BWI-affiliated federation, FEQUIMFAR, in São Paulo. Among those who attended were BWI Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean Nilton Freitas, Flávio José de Barros Moraes, General Secretary of the Trade Union of Workers in the Chemical Industries of São Carlos, João Francisco F. Andrade, representative of the Prata Construction Union, José Rodrigues de Lima, General Secretary of the Trade Union of Workers in the Chemical Industries of Manaus, Sérgio Luiz Leite, General Secretary of FEQUIMFAR and Miguel Francisco Feres, Director of Human Resources and Union Relations at Faber-Castell Brazil.

“The signed declaration is part of BWI’s Global Alliance on Safe and Healthy Workplaces, an international campaign to push the ILO to recognise OHS as a fundamental right of workers. It also part of a bigger advocacy in the region under the UN's 2030 agenda,” Freitas said. 

“We congratulate the management of the Faber-Castell company in Brazil, particularly President Marcelo Tabacchi and Miguel Feres, for signing this declaration together with the unions that truly represent the company's workers in Brazil,” he said.
