BWI seeks researcher on climate change

BWI is looking for a research expert to explore the existing practices of industries where it is active in, as well as actions by its trade union members that have led to concrete workers’ rights protecting adjustments in workplaces and industries (building, wood and forestry, and allied sectors). 

The research seeks to analyse the implications of climate change in BWI industries and to identify cross-cutting issues and priority fields of activity emerging from existing practices.

The identified industries can be considered as major sources of emissions. Data shows that construction accounts for 39 percent of energy-related CO2, while forestry and land use account for 6 percent. Moreover, construction and building materials workers are involved in the value chains that are categorised as main industrial emitters.

BWI believes that climate change is the most significant challenge of our century. If not stopped, it will be the first cause of natural disasters and job losses. Fighting climate change in BWI sectors is therefore a fundamental part of the workers’ struggle.
