As a result of its dialogue with Eiffage Senegal, a civil engineering company, the National Union of Construction Workers (SNTC/BTP) strengthened its initiatives to protect workers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The union said that the dialogue secured commitment from Eiffage Senegal to contribute CFA franc 30 million (USD 50, 414), on top of the union’s CFA franc 10 million ( USD 16, 549) contribution, for the purchase of COVID-19 food packs to 3,000 workers. SNTC/BTP said that each food pack consists of 10 kilos of sugar, 10 liters of oil, 2 kilos of milk powder, 10 kilos of flour and two boxes of vitamin c.
Dr. Ndaraf Fall, the company’s occupational health and safety manager, said that they are strictly observing COVID-19 health and safety measures such as the mandatory wearing of masks and helping workers boost their immune systems by providing them food supplies and vitamins.
“Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Eiffage's general management has taken steps to protect its workers. We have implemented individual and collective preventive measures which were followed by all workers and staff, and distributed food supplies and vitamins. This demonstrates the company’s solidarity and social responsibility to workers."
As of 28 May, Senegal has 3,253 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 39 deaths.
