BWI’s young unionists strategise actions for better future, prep for 2024 youth festival
BWI's young trade unionists are preparing for a Global Youth Festival in 2024, which is widely expected to amplify young workers' issues and demands under the themes of "digitalisation and the future of work." As part of the preparations, BWI's International Youth Committee (IYC) convened a virtual meeting on 24 May to strategise its next steps since the global union's 5th World Congress in Madrid last year.
The young trade unionists discussed their plans and activities for this year and in 2024. They stated that they intend to launch more youth training programs and advocacy campaigns aimed at increasing the involvement of young workers in union organisations and defining their roles in defending democracy.
The youth committee urged BWI’s affiliates worldwide to establish more structures for young workers to participate in and exercise leadership roles, and to build comprehensive youth platforms. It also called on young workers to join BWI’s youth network and support its various initiatives to promote young workers’ rights and welfare.
BWI Youth will meet again this June to plan their efforts for this year’s International Youth Day on 12 August.
