Pakistan: Union demands better work and pay amidst economic crisis
The ACE Employees Union (ACEEU), BWI’s affiliate in Pakistan, pushed for a charter of demands to address diminishing real wages in the country due to an economic crisis fueled by growing debt and an abnormal increase in inflation.
The union’s demands include an increase of pay in basic salary, clubbing ad hoc allowances with basic salary along with a hike in the increment rate twice as much as the existing; medical insurance facility up to PKR 500,000, gratuity payment to all regular workmen employees on last drawn gross salary and a revision of meal charges to PKR 600.
“We appeal to the government to support our workers by providing them with the necessary financial relief. At the company level, we have already submitted a charter of demands to the management to protect the workers from the impact of the economic crisis,” ACEEUPresident Mohammad Ishtiaq Virk said.
