BWI and ITUC conducts gender training
BWI and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) on 4 November conducted a gender training which was participated by women trade unionists from Argentina, the Dominican Republic and Panama.
The training, which was part of BWI’s series of global trainings on gender-based violence, focused on discussing to the participants the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention 190 on Violence and Harassment in World of Work. The activity familiarised the women unionists on the convention’s salient features as they lobby their respective governments to ratify the convention.
It was reported that Argentina, on 11 November, ratified ILO Convention 190. It is the third country, after Uruguay and Fiji, to ratify the convention, and the second country to do so in Latin America and the Caribbean region.
BWI said that the training is also part of its preparation in the region for this year’s 16 Days of Activism on Violence against Women, which started on 25 November and will conclude on the celebration on International Human Rights Day on 10 December. The global union said that it will use the occasion to push for more ratifications of the ILO convention in countries where its affiliates have presence.
