BWI stands with striking Weyerhaeuser workers

The Building and Woodworkers’ International (BWI), representing 12 million workers worldwide, stands in solidarity with the Weyerhaeuser timber workers who are on strike in Oregon and Washington in the United States under the leadership of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW). We join them as they fight the unfair negotiating tactics and practices of their company management. 

We have learned of the struggle of the striking Weyerhaeuser workers through Mike Rose, Chief of Staff of IAMAW’s Woodworkers Department and BWI Regional Vice President for North America. BWI is one with the workers as they push back their company's attempts to cut their vacation time and increase the cost of their health insurance amidst a meagre increase in wages. In every walkout protest and solidarity picket action, BWI stands with the Weyerhaeuser workers.  

BWI is one week away from its 5^th World Congress in Madrid, Spain wherein its affiliates will carry the theme: “Vamos! Organise beyond borders! For the people. For peace. For the Planet.” In this spirit, BWI hopes for the Weyerhaeuser workers’ outstanding victory as they struggle for a collective bargaining agreement that is truly responsive to their needs and consistent with the principles of decent work and labour rights.
