BWI World Board reviews final congress preps, lauds high delegate turnout
A day before the formal opening of its 5th World Congress, BWI’s World Board met on 4 October 2022 at the Marriot Hotel and Conference Centre in Madrid, Spain.
The Board expressed its satisfaction that 700 out of the expected 800 Congress delegates are already physically present in Madrid. This is a far cry from the 350 affiliates who confirmed their attendance to the Congress at the beginning of BWI’s preparations due largely to the pandemic.
The Board reviewed key aspects of the Congress programme, including actions related to BWI campaigns, the election process and resolutions. Rita Schiavi, Chair of BWI’s International Women's Committee (IWC), stressed the importance of having more women in the various statutory bodies of the organisation, including the World Board and Council.
In addition, the Board accepted the request for affiliation of the National Intercompany Industrial Construction Workers' Union (SINACIN), a young Chilean trade union which is representing workers employed at multinational companies such as Acciona (Spain) and Statkraft (Norway).
