Global Day of Action with Trade Unions in Ukraine
On 30 June, BWI will join a global trade union solidarity action, initiated by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), in voicing strong protest and opposition to the imposition of a new Anti-union draft law No. 2681 which was introduced in the Ukraine Parliament on 27 May. From the start, BWI and its affiliates around the world have shown solidarity to the Ukrainian labour movement that has been pushing back against its government’s proposed labour law reform.
The draft law is in contravention of the Constitution of Ukraine as well as the core conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), particularly Convention 87 on Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize, and Convention 98 on the Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining. The draft law also contravenes the provisions of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.
The BWI calls on affiliates to:
- Send a letter to the President and Parliament of Ukraine and government by registered mail; according to law in Ukraine, registered mail requires a response.
- Email, fax or post a copy to the Embassy of Ukraine in your country.
- Email, fax or post Send a copy to the Embassy or Mission of your country in Ukraine.
- Raise awareness about the situation in Ukraine and the need for global solidarity on your social media channels (#HandsOffUkraineUnions) and through the trade union press.
