Victory for the "Murphy 4"

Unite the Union's long-running dispute ends in vindication for dismissed Murphy workers.

Following a long-running battle encompassing an active campaign in Ireland and abroad, Unite announces a win for the Murphy 4. The campaign targeted the company's transnational operations and actively used the leverage of Unite at home and internationally with the support of BWI.

Unite confirms that the dispute, following the dismissal of four Unite members in August/September 2022, has been settled following negotiations between Murphy International and Unite the Union. While the exact terms of the settlement are confidential, Unite is able to disclose that the offer of reinstatement was rejected by the four and that they have received compensation.

"Unite's campaign and the global unwavering solidarity support to the affected trade union members and representatives, is an inspiration for all. It also sends an important signal to employers worldwide about the risk it poses, not respecting the right of trade union representatives to organise and bargain without reprisals," BWI General Secretary Ambet Yuson said.
