Brazilian unions design COVID-19 protocols for construction and wood sector

In preparation for Brazil’s reopening of the construction and wood sector in several states, 30 trade union leaders from 25 unions participated in a workshop organised by BWI in Latin America and the Caribbean. COVID-19 protocols on the sector incorporating epidemiological and technical perspectives, as well as trade union strategies were produced based on the workshop’s 3 training modules.

Nilton Freitas, BWI Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean, said that the training workshop and the protocols developed are part of BWI and its affiliate unions’ efforts to secure the health, safety and rights of workers.

“The training and the proposed protocols will greatly contribute to the workers’ collective bargaining efforts to ensure safe and healthy workplaces,” Freitas said.

The training was made possible through the support and cooperation of Union to Union (Sweden) and FES Brazil.

Below are the training modules.
