Prior to the BWI Latin America Regional Committee meeting, the BWI conducted a High-Level Mission to Mexico from 13 to 18 October 2019. The mission consisted of trade union representatives from Sweden, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Spain, Switzerland, Panama, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Australia and Germany. The objective of the Mexico mission was to have a comprehensive picture of the current political and trade union situation in the country in order to identify areas of BWI’s future work in the country.Weiterlesen...

21 November: Hundreds of Colombian workers started a national strike against the new reform package imposed by President Iván Duque. According to the Colombian national centers, the reforms will threaten the already-weakened Colombian peace agreement and put the vulnerable population into greater poverty, precariousness, and social insecurity. The BWI affiliate Histadrut Construction and Allied Industries Workers Union strengthened its international work during its 14th Congress held in Tel Aviv last 24 October. Its various Congress resolutions outlined the innovative union work that it plans to implement and the presence of 33-strong delegation of other BWI affiliates from 16 countries clearly highlighted its commitment to international cooperation and solidarity. A BWI delegation led by General Secretary Ambet Yuson recently conducted a mission to Portugal. He was accompanied by Vincente Sanchez General Secretary of CCOO-FECOMA; Marilia Medes, International Director of UNIA; and Coen van der Veer, Regional Representative of BWI Europe.
